Mizumi waterguns

Background

Stadlbauer is a leading international group with interests in leisure, entertainment and lifestyle. To help it capitalise on the development of new materials and compact, powerful motors, Stadlbauer decided to develop a range of water guns under the Mizumi brand. The company chose KISKA as its design partner and asked the design team to create a range of daring and stylish water guns that would appeal to children – and their parents!

Approach

Stimulated by this unique project, the KISKA research team analysed children and their contemporary heroes. A key influence in developing the design platform was therefore Manga, whose unique imagery gave the designers some extensive design cues. By combining Manga elements with other influences, the result was exciting designs that set a new standard for the market by combining attractive and unique ‘retro' features with child-friendly style.

Result

KISKA’s expertise in product design then enabled the team to propose some very attractive yet practical solutions to the client. These included a number of different water guns with different water volumes, each ergonomically designed for a range of target groups, from children to adults. Styles ranged from hand guns to rocket launchers. The first products reached the market just 12 months after the project began.

Benefit
Sales of Mizumi water guns exceeded all expectations at launch and continue to do so. This success, in such a competitive and fashion-driven market, shows how well KISKA responds even when faced with tight timeframes and unconventional content.
